What we handle for companies that are closing or behind on filings

We strike off companies that have stopped trading, close LLPs and bring overdue filings up to date.

What each MCA status means

StatusWhat it means
Active
  • The company is on the register and can file. The status does not show overdue filings or solvency
Under process of striking off
  • Removal has started. The company still exists, its debts stand and objections can still be made
Strike Off-AwaitingPublication
  • The strike-off is ordered; the company is dissolved when the Gazette notice is published
Strike Off
  • Removed from the register and dissolved. An identical name stays barred for 20 years
  • The company, a member, a creditor or a workman can apply to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to restore it within 20 years
Under CIRP
  • In insolvency: a resolution professional runs the company, takes creditors’ claims, and suits against it are on hold
Under Liquidation
  • Being wound up: a liquidator holds the assets and takes claims
Dormant under section 455
  • Registered as dormant: it keeps minimal filings while it has no significant business
Amalgamated
  • Merged into another company, which now holds its assets, debts and contracts
Converted to LLP
  • Now an LLP; the company itself is dissolved
Dissolved under section 54 or 59(8)
  • Dissolved by the Tribunal after insolvency (section 54) or a voluntary liquidation (section 59(8))
Dissolved
  • Dissolved; the Tribunal can declare it void within 2 years. After a liquidation, an identical name stays barred for 2 years
Inactive for e-filing
  • MCA has not defined this label. It marks old rows of re-issued CINs, new companies and many foreign companies, so search the name for the current record

MCA’s own page also shows whether a company incorporated by 2017 has filed form INC-22A (ACTIVE). Until it does, changes to its capital, directors or office are not recorded.

Every enquiry gets a written reply within 12 hours.

Then we tell you what the status means, close the company through a strike-off if the business has stopped, or bring its annual filings up to date.

Questions about company status

How do I check if a company is active in India?

Type its name or CIN above. "Active" means it is on the register and can file; also check the dates of its last annual return and balance sheet.

What does "Strike Off" mean on MCA?

The Registrar has removed the company, usually for not doing business or not filing. It cannot trade, and an identical name stays barred for 20 years.

Can a struck off company be revived?

Yes. The company, a member, a creditor or a workman can apply to the National Company Law Tribunal within 20 years of the strike-off notice, and anyone aggrieved by the Registrar’s order can appeal within 3 years.

What if a company that owes me money is struck off?

It cannot trade or sign contracts, but its directors stay liable as if it had not been dissolved (section 248(7)), and as a creditor you can apply to restore it within 20 years. Ask us before you write the money off.

How many companies are struck off in India?

MCA’s own figures show 901,936 of 3,192,605 registered companies struck off (October 2026). Type a name above to check one company.

What does "Under process of striking off" mean?

Removal has started. The company can stop it by replying within 30 days with its overdue filings or proof of business, and creditors can object.

What does "Dissolved under section 54" mean?

The Tribunal dissolved the company after insolvency proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. "Section 59(8)" means the company wound itself up voluntarily.

Is it safe to contract with a company under CIRP?

Deal only with its resolution professional, who runs the company during insolvency, and ask us before you sign.

What does it mean when a company applies to be struck off?

The company has asked to be removed after paying off its debts. A public notice invites objections within 30 days.

How do I close a company in India?

A company with no business and no liabilities can apply to be struck off. One with assets or creditors to settle is wound up. We handle both.

How can I identify struck-off companies?

Their status reads "Strike Off". MCA also publishes each Registrar’s strike-off notices on mca.gov.in.

How do I find out who owns a company?

MCA’s master data lists the directors. The shareholders are in its annual return, form MGT-7, sold on MCA’s View Public Documents service.

Ask us before you deal with a company that is not Active

Send the company’s name or CIN and the decision you face, such as a payment, a contract or a restoration.

  • Status, filings and notices read together
  • Restoration and overdue filings handled
  • Strike-off or LLP closure when the business has stopped
