Free tool: company name check
Type the name you want. We check it against the 3.7 million companies and LLPs on India’s company register and show every clash, with the rule behind it.

We check your name, reserve it and incorporate the company. Our company secretaries, chartered accountants and lawyers have done this since 2004.
When the Registrar compares names, Rule 8 of the Companies (Incorporation) Rules tells it to ignore the differences below. If two names match once they are ignored, the new one is refused.
| What the Registrar ignores | Treated as the same name |
|---|---|
| Words for the type of company: Rule 8(2)(a) |
|
| Plural, singular and tense: 8(2)(b) and (d) |
|
| Spacing, punctuation and symbols: 8(2)(c) |
|
| Sound and spelling: 8(2)(e) and (i) |
|
| Word order: 8(2)(g) |
|
| Web addresses and articles: 8(2)(f) and (h) |
|
| A complete translation: 8(2)(j) |
|
| A place name added: 8(2)(k) |
|
| Numbers: 8(2)(l) |
|
A no-objection from the existing company helps only for names that differ by a web address, word order, an article, a place or a number, and in 2026 the Central Registration Centre stopped accepting even those.
| Words in the name | What the Registrar needs |
|---|---|

We send our own fee in writing after your enquiry.

Search the MCA register, then compare the name the way the Registrar does: plurals, spellings, sound-alikes, word order and places. Our check at the top of this page does both.
MCA’s search only matches the words you type. The Central Registration Centre also refuses names that sound the same, differ by a plural, word order or place, or translate an existing name, and our check tests all of these.
Yes. MCA’s own name search is free with a captcha, and ours is free without one.
MCA’s standard is 1 working day. An approved name is held for 20 days for a new company, 60 days for a change of name and 3 months for an LLP.
Rarely. The rules allow it only where the names differ by a web address, word order, an article, a place or a number, and in 2026 the Central Registration Centre refused even those.
An identical name stays barred for 20 years after the strike-off notice; a similar one does not. After a liquidation the bar is 2 years, and after an LLP closes, 5 years.
A coined word, or a distinctive word with your line of business. The rules treat "Silk Wise Manufacturers", "Computer World" and "Tour Hub" as distinctive, and in 2026 the Central Registration Centre allowed "Kalpvriksha Education Institute" beside "Kalpvriksha Institute".
A private company’s name ends in "Private Limited" and a public company’s in "Limited". A Section 8 company’s name needs a word such as Foundation, Association or Council.
Only what the name calls for: the owner’s consent for a registered trademark in your class, the parent’s board resolution when a subsidiary uses its parent’s name, and your partners’ consent if your own firm used the name in the last 5 years.
Yes, if your name uses a word registered as a trademark in your line of business. The Registrar will ask for the owner’s consent.
You can propose two in SPICe+ Part A or RUN, or one if Part A is filed together with Part B, each up to 75 characters.
A draft published in April 2026 would add explicit sound-alike and abbreviation tests. Until it is notified, the current rules apply.
File the name in SPICe+ Part A, or in RUN for an existing company, with the Rs 1,000 fee. If it comes back for changes, you have 15 days to resubmit.
The fee is Rs 1,000 for a company name and Rs 200 for an LLP name. Keeping a company name for 40 days costs Rs 1,000 more, or Rs 3,000 in all for 60 days.
The Registrar at the Central Registration Centre, a Ministry of Corporate Affairs office, approves every company and LLP name.
Our name check covers the MCA register. Our trademark search covers IP India’s register, whose public search now needs a one-time code and a captcha.
Send the name you want and two alternatives. We come back with the names most likely to pass and our fee.
If you would rather talk, add a phone number and a time for the call.
